I decided to create a Katy Perry costume from scratch last year for Halloween. It took a lot of effort, but the end result was fantastic and I received so much praise from everyone!
The bra - This was the hardest part to the costume. To make the cupcakes I used filmo (a putty substance that can be hardened in the oven) and rolled two identical sausage shapes which were layered to create a spiral shape. At the base of the spirals I made 3 holes (top, left side, right side) so that they could be attached easier to the bra. Next i used multi-coloured filmo, and shaped it into small flakes to look like sprinkles, then applied to the spiral shapes. I then used red filmo to create two cherries and placed them on the top. The cupcakes were then put into the oven to bake.
Afterwards, I painted the cupcakes with pink nail-varnish to give it a glossed look. I took an old pink bra that was no longer needed, and attached the cupcakes with glue and by sewing through the holes on the cupcakes to the bra. On the wire of the bra, I attached marshmallows using superglue.
The shorts - I used an old pair of shorts, and cut the legs to shorten them. I then used blue dye to create a blue hint, and superglue to attach blue sequins to the rear pockets to give it more sparkle.
Shoes - A pair of black killer heels, in which I glued marshmallows to the straps for that candy look.
Accessories - Dark blue fringed wig, candy bracelets, blue eye shadow.
The final touch! Complete the look with a friend as Russell Brand! :D
This Homemade Katy Perry Inspired Costume was made for a Halloween themed pageant last year when the Katy Perry song California Gurls was popular and the video was great with all the candy outfits, so it was an original outfit for the pageant and the song was great to make up a routine to. She did awesome, people really loved it being such a popular song at the time.
We started with a store bought costume the dress with candy dots as a base but I glued rhinestones on the dots and added real candy on to the dress with a glue gun. We bought a pink tutu to go under the dress. For the jewelery we used the rubber jelly bracelets, candy bracelet and I made a necklace and bracelets out of real candy by glue gunning them together on an elastic and the necklace is a string hanging off a candy choker necklace. I used real candy gluegunned to a headband with a pink bow on the side. She wore a candy ring and ice cream earrings. I even glued candy to the socks.
This is my homemade Katy Perry Costume. I was going for the California Girl look, from the beginning of the music video. I just bought a bra at Wal-Mart and bedazzled it with multi-colored gems that consisted of hearts, stars and a variety of different circles. The shorts were just fabric we found at JoAnn and used an old high-waisted short pattern that my mom had. It took probably four or five hours all together, between individually gluing on each gem to the bra, (and the shoes, which somehow didn't make it into one picture throughout the night) and sewing the shorts together. Other than that, the wig was just found at a costume store, the belt off of a shirt I already had and the Wirly Pop at this very large candy store. Oh and of course there was a lot of body glitter and blue and green make up for the final touch.
