Homemade Jessie from Toy Story Costume

This Jessie from Toy Story Costume was my first homemade costume and I loved it! I decided to make this costume because our family was the "Toy Story" cast for Halloween and I was unhappy with the quality of the Adult Jessie costume that was available to purchase.

For the shirt I bought a white button down top on clearance at a department store (I'm sure you could find one at a consignment store that would work as well, I just happened to find this one for $3. I then hot glued yellow fabric onto it. I used a photo of Jessie from the movie to make sure I got the pattern of the sequins right, I bought a sequin string at a fabric store and hot glued them onto the yellow fabric. I then glued large white buttons and ribbon onto the cuffs of the shirt.

The pants were very easy, I just bought some cow print fabric at a fabric store and hot glued them onto an old pair of jeans to looks like chaps. For the hat I bought a cheap red childs cowboy hat and replaced the string around the rim with white ribbon. I braided my hair and completed the look with a white ribbon at the bottom of the braid.

My costume is the coolest because I tried to keep it as true to the movie as possible, and I think that the small details made the costume!

Very nice job in recreating Jessie! Thanks for sharing your great ideas. I need to make a Jessie for my daughter and I will use your hints to make it. Definitely beats buying it at the store. Nicely Done!

Well since my son was going to be Buzz Lightyear for Halloween and since my wife has never been able to take part in dressing up with her boys for Halloween, I made the executive decision that she should be Jessie from the Toy Story franchise. She and I worked together on this homemade Jessie cowgirl costume and it was mostly a combined effort of her sewing skills and my crafty creativity.

The hat is a black Zoro that has about 50 layers of spray paint on it. The white lanyard was weaved around the brim using a nail to make the holes.

The shirt is a men's dress shirt that was painted with yellow fabric paint and trimmed in red. The buttons are painted baby food lids.

The pants were my wife's jeans that we added the cow print on to.

The cuffs are fun foam, painted with the same yellow fabric paint and trimmed it the same red thread. We also added white cowboy fringe to the cuffs and pants for extra authenticity.

The wig was handmade by my wife using 2 skeins of bright red yard.

The buckle is made from a blue camping mat that was painted with the fabric paint and then the detailing was free hand drawn using a sharpie.

A full how-to of how we did it can be found here...

Homemade Jessie from Toy Story Costume

My Homemade Jessie from Toy Story Costume was made by a few designer friends at work. We made a cardboard box and cut out a piece at the front and put some clear plastic so it looked like I was a doll in a box waiting to be sold. We made sure there was a drinking hole for a straw to go through so I could drink through it but eating it had to come off.

The Designers at my work took some Toy Story characters and recreated the look of a character in a box and printed and we mounted to board. I then went to a local material shop and got some felt and cut out and then used a red felt pen to make it look like it had been stitched. I brought a wig from a local fancy dress shop to go with the outfit and wore a white shirt and jeans. I got a bangle and covered it in felt and got some string and tied it to the back of the box so it looked like a pull string for me to speak.

Everyone loved the outfit and was really impressed and wanted photos to show their friends. Now what I am going to do next year I don’t know that will beat it.
