My son wanted to be Dash from The Incredibles, but I didn't like the commercial costumes. So I made his myself. The others soon followed since they were so simple. My husband works in an office, so he went as 'Bob Paar' in a suit with the shirt peeking through (he even bleached his hair for the occasion).

Here's what you'll need to create these homemade Incredibles family costumes:

A red long sleeve crew neck t-shirt for Insignia-

1. Cut an oval out of gold felt (about 6"x4").
2. Cut a smaller oval out of black felt
3. Cut the 'i' out of yellow felt (make a template out of paper first to get it right)
4. Use fabric glue or 'Heat and Bond' to attach the pieces together - black to gold, then the letter 'i' (reinforce with stitching around the edges to make it last longer).
5. Use 'Heat and Bond' on the gold oval and iron to the shirt. Stitch around the edges for durability in the wash.
6. Use a light yellow fabric paint marker to make a large dot inside the yellow felt dot over the 'i'.

Other than that- red sweatpants or leggings, black shorts (for small children, black opaque tights with the legs cut off will work) - wear shorts over the pants, black boots, black gloves, black face paint (for mask), black wig (for Violet).

Homemade Incredibles Couple Costume

We absolutely loved the movie and since my husband is 6'6" tall and looks almost exactly like Mr. Incredible, I thought it would be a great idea to dress up as "The Incredibles" on my favorite holiday. I ordered the body suits from a dance company in New York (they were very comfortable, considering the weather in FL but a little pricey). I sewed on the collar in similar black material. We wore black Speedos over the bodysuits (we blacked out the logo), and I ordered the boots and gloves online. I made the logos out of felt from the local craft store, using pictures I found online as a guide and glued them on using fabric glue, with little bullets sewn on for added security. There are so many accessory companies out there, it was pretty easy to find reasonably priced accessories (i.e. boots, gloves) online while comparison shopping.

I purchased a wig from our local beauty supply store and Viola, a Homemade Incredibles Couple Costume! We were a hit and to this day, people compliment us on our costumes and ask us why we never entered a contest on Halloweeen. I love Halloween, and it was great to participate with these costumes, meanwhile appreciating the hard work other people put into theirs.

Homemade Incredibles Family Costume

Our family decided to be the Incredibles Family. I started Bob, Helen, Dash and Violet's costumes with a red unitard, and Jack Jacks' with a red sleeper. Each costume needed a black collar (sewn on swimsuit fabric), black "undies" (ready made undies for adults, amended black leggings for kids) with orange trim (sewn on swimsuit material), an Incredibles logo (made of felt), gloves, mask (made of craft foam) and boots (tall boots for the girls, and spray painted fishing boots for the boys). Jack Jack needed a black collar and black wrist cuffs (sewn on swimsuit material), black footies (painted acrylic paint on existing footies) and a mask (though my baby wouldn't wear it!).

We had lots of fun in our Homemade Incredibles Family Costume, received lots of compliments and had many pictures taken of us by neighbor. Of course, they might be for bribery purposes down the road!

As most of us know, lots of women like to dress in barely nothing for Halloween. Well, this year I decided to be sexy AND warm! This homemade Mrs Incredible sexy Halloween costume idea fit the bill and her body is amazing in her suit.

I started by searching all over America for the perfect red body suit. I couldn't find one so I ended up sewing my own. That was MUCH better because the suit fit me to a T. I finished it off by purchasing black gloves and using some of my own black satin underwear. I used black ribbon for the neck and yellow ribbon for the belt. I printed the symbol with fabric print n' stick paper. I painted my mask with black face paint and "ta-da", I am Mrs. Incredible, ready to take on the world!

Those boots are from Steve Madden. I bought them on the last day of 2009 for a NYE party at buy one get one 75% off. I'm not sure if they still make them. If not, I believe Bakers makes some almost identical. Good Luck in finding some!!

You can go to Michael Levine and get spandex types or even polyester type fabrics. I honestly don't remember which one I used here since this was in 2010. But Michael Levine in DTLA has everything you can imagine.

Do you still have the costume? If so, are you willing to sell it?
