Homemade Lunch Ladies Costumes

A trip to the local thrift store fueled my sister and I’s costumes last year. It all started when I found the matching purple smocks! I just knew we had to do SOMETHING with them! The LUNCH LADIES costume was born!

These costumes were cheap, required NO sewing and won multiple costume contests. We were the hit of every party we went to!

So, besides the smocks, we found ugly dresses at the thrift store (and from our grandma’s closet)! Knee-high pantyhose rolled down. Orthopedic shoes. Gaudy broaches. Ugly jewelry. Horrific blue eye shadow, red rouge and pink lipstick. Glasses we borrowed from grandma’s early years. Badges we made on the computer with names we made up (Marge, Thelma, Doris…you get the idea) “Cook” and made up school name (I think it was Sunnyside Elementary). My sister wore a long, grey wig in a bun, I teased my own hair into a mess and put baby powder in it. I wore one of those old metal hair curlers in my bangs. Last, but not least….HAIR NETS!

The best part of our costumes was the fake cigarette i let hang from my scowling lips all night!

This was the funnest Halloween we ever had, all due to these costumes. We won multiple contests and had our picture taken at least 500 times!
