Dinner is Served - Head on Platter and Waiter Costume
My two boys, age 10 and 11 wanted to do something fun for their Halloween Banquet with a scout troop. We decided to do the head on a silver platter but go one step further to add the gross waiter also. They got rave reviews and it cost about 10 bucks total.
We hot glued old barbie doll pieces and a bloody spoon to the vest. We also added fake blood and covered a large bowl with foil to put over my son's head and then the waiter would say "dinner is served" and take the top off... everyone would scream...very fun!
The waiter outfit is old pants, an old white shirt, and a real waiter vest we got at goodwill. The blood is just red paint. Hot glue is great for gluing items to the vest.
The table is a box with a hole cute, a dollar store tablecloth, a plastic silver platter with a hole cut out. Make sure you duct tape the inside edges as it can be sharp. Also, put some material around the head to cover the hole and also prevent the tray from rubbing against the neck.
The fruit and fake bugs were hot glued and they came from the dollar store. A fake champagne glass was used with blood in it. We also had a few worms, bloody cracker, etc. on the tray.
I recommend the smallest box possible for this homemade costume so you can sit down at a party. Just use a longer tablecloth so your legs don't show too much.

My son Benjamin wanted to stand out from the crowd for Halloween. In the U.K Halloween isn't as great as in the U.S, so we had our work cut out!
We used a large flat box given to us by Asda (Walmart) over which we draped a tablecloth from the local charity shop. Both of these had holes cut in them large enough for Benjamin's head to pass through. The platter was an old tin one which first had a hole cut in the centre to fit snuggly around Benjamin's neck. A section at the back was then cut out so that the front could be placed under his chin and the back was then added behind his head. The sharp edges were made safe using the electrical insulation from electrical cable.
The whole effect was then finished off with make-up, fake blood and the 'table' and platter were dressed with glasses filled with raspberry jelly set in the fridge, LED candles, spider web and rubber toy food and apples. He made such an impression on the local community that had ended up in the newspapers!
I am the grill master in this Homemade Head on a Grill Costume. My sister-in-law is the head on the grill. The grill is a replica of a large Weber grill. The bottom is frame and covered with felt to keep the weight down. The top is made of wood with a clear plastic window to see in. The top does open and close.
The grates are made of closet shelving that are painted silver. Under the grates is charcoal with red lights to make it look hot. There is also a container in the front for water where dry ice is put in to make smoke. A few fake body parts are also thrown on the grill.
