Homemade Harley Quinn from Batman Costume
Okay, I would have to say this was a very challenging costume for me to put together. Katelynn wanted to be Harleyquin from the Batman cartoon. So I set to work on getting the materials needed to make the costume.
I had to purchase two long sleeved body suits and two pairs of tights, each one black and one red. I then purchased white felt with some red and black felt for the diamond cutouts. I cut both the suits and the tights in half and spliced them together. I also purchased some little black and red gloves to go with the outfit.
I had some white ruffle fabric that I lined the neck and the gloves with. I took the white felt and cut half oval shapes to add with the neck ruffles.
I purchased some black and red slippers and added a triangle shape to the back of them with a bell sewn on each tip. I then took the other halves of the suits and converted them into the jester hood that she is wearing. I stuffed the tips of the jester hood with old pillow stuffing and took some white fluffy balls and sewed them to the tips with bells as well. I also added these fluffy white balls to the ends of the white oval shapes.
After she put the jumpsuit and hood on, I painted her face with water based acrylic fabric paint to top her off. Now she's ready for action in her homemade Harley Quinn from Batman costume. Enjoy!!!!!
Let me first say that I am in no way a seamstress, and am not very skilled at sewing. But I know my way around a machine and do well enough to put together costumes for myself.
I sewed this Harley Quinn costume completely from scratch using this Kwik Sew pattern - A. I just modified it so the zipper was in the back and I cut the left and right halves of the pattern just like the directions said to, one red and one black. Then cut those in half just above the waist and sewed them together, following the rest of the patterns directions.
The collar and hood I just put together myself kind of trial and error. The final collar was the second I made and the hood took lots of adjusting to get it to fit right, but I just kind of winged it. Both pieces should have had little white poofy balls attached as well, but time got the better of me and I just didn't get a chance to add them in.
I found some grayish boots at the thrift store and spray painted one red and one black.
Every year my boyfriend and I host a themed Halloween costume party… this year’s theme was Superheroes and Villains! At first, I wasn’t familiar with the vast world of comic book characters, but I knew I wanted to find an iconic villain. When I found Harley Quinn it was love at first sight!
I’ve never really been a fan of store-bought costumes. I constructed this non-traditional Harley Quinn costume in a weekend, but gathering accessories and designing the makeup became a week long obsession! My boyfriend dressed as the Joker and we rocked our party! We competed with the third game of the World Series, but managed to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting citizens of Glens Falls, NY!
This Homemade Harley Quinn Costume is, by far, my favorite Halloween costume to date and I am happy to share it. Now if we can only convince Christopher Nolan to add Harley Quinn to his upcoming installation of the Batman series!

My homemade costume is based on the Harley Quinn Arkham Asylum costume. It took me 3 weeks to make and it has my own unique taste on some of the pieces. I loved dressing up as her and I had a Joker to be by my side.
I used stretchy materials for my leg and arm pieces, an under-bust corset, and a plain white skirt. It sounds easy to make but those are only the beginning of my costume. It was difficult to make especially the two-tone bra piece but I really enjoyed making this homemade Harley Quinn Arkham Asylum costume and now I'm making costumes for other people.
I'm Harley Quinn as seen on the new Arkham Asylum Video game. I had to paint almost everything including the bra and corset. I couldn't find the correct boots so compromised with a pair of thigh highs in a different color. I think this Homemade Harley Quinn Costume is a very close match to the actual costume.
