My son's name is Jack and I like to incorporate his name in his costumes (as long as he will let me). I decided it would be fun and easy to make him a Jack from the game of Jacks.
It was fun but not so easy but now since I have done the troubleshooting it shouldn't be so hard for you.
I purchased a gray sweatsuit with a gray stocking cap (for a silver Jack). I purchased some gray fabric for the spokes and bought some silver balloons for the tips of the spokes. My son's feet and head were the spinning tips.
I sewed the fabric into 4 cones for the spokes leaving an opening at the tip and the bottom. I then put magazine pages into the cones to smooth them out. I blew up 4 balloons and attached a piece of string to the balloons. I pulled the string through the cone and sewed it onto the bottom of the cone. I then stuffed the cone with stuffing.
In order to make the cones stand up on the sweatshirt I attached a piece of elastic to end of the done with a snap on the other end. The match for the snap was on the sweatshirt. There was also a snap on the end of the cone and on the sweatshirt. This enables you to take the spokes off the sweatshirt when in a car or sitting down.
Have your child hold a ball that represents the super ball in Jacks for photos.

I made this woopie cushion Halloween costume for my daughter Avery. She loved it. And after trick or treating said it made all the "old guys" laugh. It was a hit.
I started off by purchasing material that was the same pink hue as a woopie cushion. Then I cut out the shape of a woopie cushion (like a bulb) through 2 layers of material and laid a piece of quilt bat on top. I sewed the 3 layers together leaving a hole a the top of the bulb for the head, and an opening for the legs. Then, I used black paint and hand painted the picture on the front using a paint brush and regular acrylic craft paint.
Then I went to the dollar store to purchase a woopie cushion to sew on the inside for sound effects, but I ended up finding a remote control woopie cushion that was battery operated. It had the noise maker attached to a long cord with a button on the end that I wired down her arm so she could press it when she wanted to make the farting noise.
This made the costume as it was funny and the kids thought it was really funny too.

Who says Halloween is just an excuse for girls to dress up in the skimpiest costumes? Not me and my sister! Every year we try to come up with something we've never seen before so last Halloween we decided we would be Snakes and Ladders and Chess!
It took a while making the board games costume because of the detail but other than that its really easy! Just get a couple of cardboard boxes, some paint, some dice and some chess pieces! As you can see you just paint!
For the hats, the snakes and ladders costume is a trilby hat with a ladder made from lollipop sticks and a cardboard snake and the chess hat is a circular piece of cardboard painted like a chess board with chess pieces glued on! Black and white clothes, and to finish it off some gloves!
It was great fun being a board game and we even played a game of snakes and ladders later that night!
My 15 month old daughter, Alicia, is wearing her homemade Laugh and Learn Puppy costume, designed to look like the Fisher Price toy. She really enjoys this toy and likes pushing all the buttons to hear the songs.
I started with a used brown puppy costume and set about transforming it into the toy. I first made new ears out of blue felt and added the word EAR. I then created buttons for the hands and feet just like the real toy, and I labeled all the parts like HAND, FOOT, and TUMMY. One paw has a musical note for singing songs and, like any good toy, she has an OFF button on her foot. I also made the alphabet letter top using a toddler shirt pattern and created a 3-D button for the shirt using the top part of a glow stick.
A sweet toy come to life and ready to play!
