If you're lucky enough to have a cat that's tolerant of your crazy Halloween costume-making ideas, here are some of the coolest costumes for cats. This is my cats first Halloween… I’m not sure where the idea came from but it popped into my head during the middle of the night, of course.
I got really excited because I had the perfect wig! Oh no, wait, we just gave boxes of stuff to Good Will! Oh, I hope… Yes! We saved the stuffed animal toys for the Fire Dept. and the box is still in the trunk of my car!
I found the doll that I was thinking of and I was so excited! I trimmed the hair off very carefully with a pair of scissors, applied a little make up, attached a wig and voila… It’s Dee Snider from Twisted Sister!
Princess Luna Cat Costume
I was just wandering the local walmart crafts department. I was there for some time before these fabrics just caught my eye as they were so pretty and shiny.
Me loving glitter and shiny things I had to think what can I make. Well then I saw these glittery pipe cleaners and thought I could make a crown with these and I could make a dress and my newly adopted lil Luna could be a princess!
I chose the disco glittery, black multi glitter tullie and went with a purple glitter tulle for the bottom as I love purple! I then took another already made batman costume I had bought her and chopped it in half to trace out my top pattern. I then drew and cut out and sewed up that pattern using the disco shiny fabric. I then cut out 2 about 30in long strips of the black multi colored glitter tulle and the purple glitter tulle and sewed them both on the bottom of the top piece I had just made. I then took 2 purple and 2 silver glitter pipe cleaners and twisted them together and then formed them into the shape of a crown.
I really feel accomplished as this is the 1st hand made costume I have made. I know the back skirt is a little off but I still think it came out great for a first timer who doesn’t really sew often. I have entered a couple competitions but well not all are judged and well ya can always compete with some of these people with there tons of friends voting. I have gotten tons of comments from friends and strangers that have seen pics of her in it and that she looks absolutely adorable and that they think I did a good job making the costume by hand and that this is one of the coolest costumes for cats that they've seen.
Funny "Cat" Fish Costume
I am so lucky I have a cat that is tolerant of my crazy ideas. My cat Chunk is 12 years old and is my pride and joy. After seeing a lot of cute pet costumes online but not wanted to spend a crazy amount of money I decided I would create my own.
This is my first attemp at making my own pet costume. I looked online for ideas but could not find what I was looking for. Then the idea of catfish came to me.
We live on the Oregon Coast so this year I was inspired to make a coastal themed costume for Chunk. I came up with he idea of a “catfish” costume.I Googled cat costumes but couldn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to let me creativity go wild and see what came out.
This costume is handmade using one of my old t-shirts, felt, a pipe cleaner for the fish whiskers, a hot glue gun and my sewing machine. I decided to try for a koi looking fish since I had a lot of orange, yellow and red felt. I started with fitting my old t-shirt on Chunk and getting the correct spot for his arms. I then used yellow felt as a base layer and sewed that on to the t-shirt. After fitting the shirt a second time cut out and hot glued the felt scales on. I created a felt fish tail and eyes and added white pipe cleaner whiskers to finish the look.
Luckily Chunk let me put the finished product on long enough to get pictures. He was able to walk around comfortably and didn’t fuss too much.Sure he may not wear this for more than a 10 minutes at a time but it was worth all the effort to get pictures.
Happy Halloween from Chunk and me! Good luck with making your own costumes for cats.
One of A Kind Biker Cat Costume
Thor’s Biker costume was fairly simple to make. First I took a leather vest and had his name embroidered across the back.
I took some patches and sewed them in place then I added some pins, a chain, a key ring and a skull. Then I found a biker helmet (ashtray) at the Swap Meet and added that. Then I took a Doggy Dew Rag and cut it down to fit around Thor’s ears and sewed on a piece of fake fur so it slipped under his chin for his beard and added a pair of “Doggles” for the finishing touch and we were done.
We entered Thor in 3 costume contests and he won 2 of them and was runner up in the 3rd. Have fun making your own costumes for cats!
