Homemade Corpse Bride Costume

Homemade Corpse Bride Costume

I love Tim Burton movies and originally wanted to be Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas but I did not have the time to make the costume due to how intricate her dress is. I decided the Corpse Bride Costume was the next best thing! I wanted to be a "sexy one" so I added a little bit of a twist to it.

For the dress I used my grandmother's old (from her first marriage) wedding gown. It was super yellowed and mothball scented... baking soda, vinegar and fabreze worked wonders on getting the scent and yellow out. I cut the dress short and the sleeves off to try and create the tube top look. For the ribs I used some fabric I had cut off from the dress and a peice of white plastic and black felt to create the 3D effect of ribs popping out of the dress, I attached this piece along the seam to create a more streamlined look. I sprayed the edges with blue and black spray paint for the final touch.

The veil belonged to my great grandmother and was too small for anyone so I cut the top off and attached blue flowers to it along with spray painting the edges. The hair is not real, just a black wig, I added in a couple of blue hair extensions I purchased at Hot Topic.

It was great and my costume was a huge hit!

My daughter's best friend wanted to be Tim Burton's Corpse Bride for Halloween, so I undertook the task.

I found an older wedding dress in her size and proceeded to destroy it. I cut a long slit up the front and then sewed it together so that her leg would poke out and not be hidden by the petticoat. I frayed and slashed the hemline. I used a sharpie marker to create the swirls and lines. I used blue and silver spray paint to color the fabric (that was definitely the first time I ever spray painted a dress!!).

I got a child's skeleton costume and cut it up for her one skeleton arm and leg. I glued those pieces on to a pair of black tights. The child had to endure sitting in leggings, with plastic wrap underneath while the fabric glue dried. It was interesting! LOL

I also made her a yarn wig by crocheting a basic skull cap and tying the yarn bundles to it.

I created the headdress by cutting up an old slip and sewing it over a wooden embroidery hoop. I frayed the edges and marked and painted it to match.

I used a 1/2 yard of costume satin to make the fingerless gloves. I crocheted the finger 'ring', and painted them to match. She really loved the Corpse Bride Costume!

I got the outfits for this Homemade Zombie Princess and Corpse Bride Costumes from local thriftshops. I pieced them together one item at a time. For the corpse bride I got an old prom dress, grey turtle neck and veil. I added the flowers and purple ribbon. For the zombie princess I used a Renaissance style princess dress with a purple hat and red fluffy turtle neck because I liked the contrast.

I did the make up with Halloween face paint. Using white as a base then dabbing with gray and green. I used purple and black around the eyes and along cheekbones. For a final touch I used vampire blood on the mouth and forehead. I also put white tights and maryjanes on them both.
