Coolest World of Warcraft Costume

My five year old daughter became entranced with the online role playing game World of Warcraft after watching her father and older sister play. One of her favorite characters are the Murlocs, a sort of fishlike creature. More specifically, she loves Murky, a baby Murloc.

After finding some pictures of Murky online, I set out to create a costume. I used about a yard and a half of blue polar fleece, about a quarter of a yard of orange fleece and some white, black and yellow felt for the eyes and tooth. I used a pair of pajama sleepers as the pattern for the body, it’s just a simple one piece bodysuit that fastens in the back.

The headpiece is a separate hood made with a seam up the middle, the orange fins are sewn into the seam. The ears were attached to the side and felt eyes appliqued. The hood is lined so it’s more comfortable. The costume is really warm – Halloween in Northeast Ohio can be chilly!

My daughter loves it and has been wearing it everywhere – it’s been fun to see who actually recognizes the character!

Total spent after using a 50% off coupon for the fleece – $10.00.

  1. Pure Genius! I am 27 years old, and a huge fan of WoW. My boyfriend introduced me to the game about a year and a half ago, and I fell in love with murlocs at first sight. I’m now planning on going out next year for Halloween so I can make one of these for myself. Thanks so much for the great idea!!!
