Homemade Scorpion from Mortal Kombat Costume

Homemade Scorpion from Mortal Kombat Costume

This is my version of one of the most popular characters from the Mortal Kombat genre - Scorpion. This was my FIRST attempt to make a costume from scratch and as you can see it came out very good.

I got the general idea from Googling "Scorpion Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks".

I will start from the top of the costume and explain what makes up everything and how I did it:

The mask: the black part is simply a thermal mask which covered my whole head and neck except for my face. The yellow mask was actually a plastic skeleton mask at first. I cut off the top portion of the mask and used modeling clay to shape the mask into the one I needed and then painted it yellow and black. I put on white contacts to create more drama to my costume.

The tabard and belt: The tabard took the longest to make because I knew that this was the core of the costume so I took my time to perfect it. I took an old flight jacket which I never wore anymore and cut it up to how I needed it. Then I sewed the spare material onto the front to create the flap. I then spray painted it yellow. The spikes are pieces of wood which i cut into little pyramids and screwed them onto the tabard. the shoulder pads were from a youth football shoulder pads which I cut up and put black pleather material over it and again placed the spikes through that and the material of the tabard. The belt is a waste trimming belt with a foam skull taped in the front.

Gauntlets: The gauntlets are a pair of old karate forearm guards which I spray painted black and yellow and screwed on the wooden pyramids. The gloves are simply weight lifting gloves.

The knee pads/skin guards: The knee pads were the second hardest to create because I kept running out of ideas on how to make them. The final result is two foam skulls cut in half and taped onto two pieces of plywood that was painted black and nailed into a pair of old construction knee pads. The shinguards were a pair of old soccer shinguards that I simply painted over with the design I wanted. Underneath all of this was a pair of boot covers used in pirate costumes to give the effect that all of this was actually one boot instead of separate pieces.

I took this costume out to New York and I was treated like a celebrity! Being stopped by everyone including cops just to take pictures of me and my costume. So hopefully you enjoy it as much as everyone else did.

Really nice.
by: Cell

Im sure you've heard this. But you should make more and sell them. Scorpion has a huge reputation and is an icon for all fighting games, since Mortal Kombat.

I've been trying to find a nice scorpion costume, but without luck.
