Residents Costume

So, I'm a big fan of the obscure band The Residents. They've kept their identities hidden for over 30 years, although they've become known for their signature giant eyeball masks and tuxedos. So, this year, I decided to honor my obsession by creating my own Residents costume.

I started off with a 14" plastic globe. I widened the hole to fit my head, cut out the eye hole, sanded it and painted it white. I attached a hard hat inside, had the iris airbrushed on, and created the veins by using caulk and then spray painting it red. I topped it off with a used tux and a top hat.

The top hat is stuffed with Styrofoam and held in place by 2 large bolts.

Hi how did you make it so you can see out the eye hole?

Seeing through the eye hole

I cut a 5" diameter hole, and then covered that with black scrim. It's fairly easy to see through from the inside, but looks solid black from the outside.

How does the hard hat stay fixed inside the globe?

Where did you get the plastic globe from?

I used plumber's goop to attach the hard hat to the inside of the globe, then drilled two holes and put the bolts through them.
