My husband and I are very tall and skinny so we thought it would be great to dress up as Oompa Loompas. I started checking out Oompa Loompa Costumes and came up with my pattern. We then decided that we would make out two kids costumes as well.

My husband and I bought white women’s capri pants from the thrift store and hot glued white ribbon to them. I made the overalls for my kids and I think they turned out adorable. I made up my own patter using poster board. I measured the length I wanted them (based on how tall my kids were) and made the shape similar to a long pair of shorts. I then added the points on each side. The suspenders were ribbon hot glued to the overalls.

We used brown shirts from the thrift store and painted the stripes on using white fabric paint. The socks were white baseball socks with brown fabric paint stripes. My kids had on white tights with brown stripes. The pom poms on the shoes were Styrofoam balls with brown fabric paint swirls on them. We purchased cheap white gloves at a hardware store for about $2 each.

To turn our faces the perfect shade of orange we used a tinted foundation. My hair was simply pinned up and sprayed green but my husbands is a curly blonde wig that is pinned up and sprayed green.

The total cost for our Homemade Oompa Loompa Family Costume was about $30 and took me about two hours to put together.

We had tons of compliments and lots of laughing as we trick or treated as a family. It was a fun night!
