Oompa Loompa on Stage
I definitely wanted something no one else would be and I love the original movie, always knew I would make this Oompa Loompa costume one year. So the pants I found at a thrift store (yes they are woman's but shhh don't tell anyone). I couldn't find a brown turtle neck anywhere in the world so I bought a white one and dyed it brown, it didn't come out as dark as I wanted but it did give it a retro technicolor brown so not bad.
Then I bought couple yards of felt, a glue gun and made my buttons, my suspenders added stripes to sleeves, socks and neck. I also made some bow tie puffy thing with the felt strips and glued them to my sneakers. The wig is a red wig from Party city and I bought a bunch of green hair spray and went to work. Lastly some orange cream makeup with white touch ups and white gloves.
I won 2 costume contest at local bars total of about $500 in cash and prizes. Bring giant bag of candy to throw to the crowd, also doing a little oompa dance helps. Not bad for spending bout 30 bucks and suffering a couple burns with the glue gun.
