Cute Hand-Crafted Thomas the Train Costume

My son loves trains so when I asked him what he wanted to be he said Thomas. A conductor outfit would be easy even purchasable cheap, so we decided to go all out. After it was made he played with it for hours, days etc… Cheap costume and free toy can’t beat that.

The homemade Thomas the Train costume cost was about $2 with additional items from the house.

You will need:

Diaper box (rectangular)
Paint- Blue, red, black, yellow, white
Brushes- ($1 store)
Red Duct tape ($1, red cable wire also works)

1. Box – I cut square hole in top of box (about half way to balance it out), enough for him to fit through comfortably. Don’t throw away cut outs!

2. Box- I un-stuck the top two panels and added cut out in the middle to add height so it wasn’t so boxy. Cut the middle panel to shape.

3. Box- Un-stick the bottom portion and tape inside so that you elongate box!

4. Duct Tape- Reinforce everything inside w/red duct tape. I also made his suspenders from the duct tape, simply tape back to back allowing some unexposed to stick to box. You will need child for measurements.

5. Get a model of Thomas and start painting. I used the red tape for the red stripes on him.

Then you’re ready to accessorize!!! We got Thomas bucket from the local Walmart or Target, can’t remember a few Halloweens ago. Conductor outfit was from dress up clothes, available in most play stores.
