Coolest Homemade Spongebob Square Pants Costume

I was inspired by this website to make a homemade Spongebob Square Pants costume and so I did… I work with the after school programs and guess who was our monthly guest speaker? You guessed it! Spongebob Square Pants! The total cost was only $10 in materials and about a day’s work of putting it together.

I used strainers and a laundry bag for the eyes, paper mache a balloon for the nose, used apple trays from the grocers for the head and two boxes for the body. I actually attached the sleeves onto the arm holes and yes, those are actual shorts, two of them to be exact. Enjoy!

  1. I watch a few toddlers and my grand baby (2 yrs) and they all love Spongebob. I wanted to dress up as him this year, but I need to be able to see through the eyes. Please let me know how you did the eyes. I read about you using the strainers and laundry bags?? Thank you for any info that you can send me.
