Back in July of 2010, my friends and I were talking about Halloween. We wanted to be something that everyone would remember. One of my friends came up with the idea of being different sodas (there were 5 of us). We looked at different costume sites for soda costumes, but none of them had one, making us disappointed. We finally came to where we saw strapless tube dresses that other girls had made look like soda cans. We were determined we were going to make this homemade soda can group Halloween costume.

Months later, in September, we went to Michael’s craft store and bought dye, paint, and hair clips. We took old pillow cases donated by a parent and we dyed them for 2 hours and then washed them and then painted them all ourselves free-handed (I was Pepsi). Of course, the pillow cases did not fit our tiny little curvy bodies, so my friend’s mom took them to a seamstress. We got them back, and they fit perfectly (anyone who knew how to sew could have taken them in, but we didn’t know anything about sewing so we played it safe).

The costume was held up by elastic at the top. We also collected the tabs off of cans and we hot-glued them to hair clips and wore them in our hair. We wore the homemade soda can group Halloween costume to our school for costume day, and they were a hit; everyone loved them. They were original and totally us, and every time we see a can of soda that one of our friends were, we say, ‘hey look, there’s you!’. We’ll always remember our fashion-forward soda can costumes, and the best part: it all only cost $20.00 to make!

Please see both pictures! The second is of all of us! Who knew soda cans could look so good?
