Homemade Scarecrow Costume

My baby boy was born on Halloween and his first birthday theme was "pumpkin patch". I wanted his costume to relate to his first birthday theme, so I decided to make him a Homemade Scarecrow Costume.

I simply used a pair of pants he already had with patches and bought a long sleeve red T-shirt. I then bought a yard of burlap for less than $3 and cut out a vest (I traced a vest that he already had) and cut out a large circle for his hat. I knotted rope around his waist and tied raffia to two stretchy hair bands and put them around his feet. I also tied raffia in a bow around his wrists and tied a blue bandanna around his neck.

For his hat, I placed the large circle I had cut out of the burlap (see above) on his head and used a loose rubber band to hold it in place. I turned up the front and stuck leaves around it. The hat was cuter than any store-bought straw hat because it looked so rugged and natural.

Lastly, I used eye-liner to draw two lines curving up on the corner of his lips with criss- cross lines to make him look like he had a sewn on smile. The entire costume was so easy to make and it was so much fun to see him wear it. We got a lot of compliments on our birthday scarecrow!
