Coolest Homemade Quailman Costume

I absolutely loved watching “Doug” when I was growing up. Until last night, I didn’t realize how many of us had this fondness in common. Random strangers were coming up to me, high-fiving me as they screamed “Quailman!” I got a huge applause at a nice restaurant where one girl asked if she could take my picture. I think a large factor in this reaction was that people had not previously realized how much they had enjoyed and felt connected to “Doug” while growing up. Doug, his little partner Porkchop, Skeeter, Patty Mayonnaise, and even Roger Klotz were all a part of our fond memories. The characters were truly interesting and we could all relate to them.

This experience made it clear to me how large an impact “Doug” has made on so many of our lives. Halloween is a great day for helping us make these discoveries and reconnecting us to our childhood days.

As far as putting this cool Quailman costume together, it took some thought but I loved doing it because it had a “homemade” feel to it.

Items used: A belt I wear every day, a red bed sheet, a large pair of underwear, some high socks, a regular old pair of running sneakers, red duct tape and a green shirt.

And so I was transformed into Quailman! It was a fun transformation. I can’t deny that, at times, I felt like a superhero last night.

  1. Yay, awesome! I was thinking of doing this this year, but changed my mind at the last minute (I’m a girl and was worried the crowd at my party didn’t know of Doug, since many of them grew up in other countries). Glad someone did it! :)

  2. A friend of mine forwarded this to me and I have to say it made me smile! Thank you all for being the sharpest, most creative, most fun fans ever! I urge everybody in these hard times to believe in the Powers of the Quail! … Patience, intelligence, grace and speed … and of course a clean pair of power briefs!

  3. How did you do the belt headband? i can not for the life of me figure out how to loop it in such an orientation that it looks like that, with the belt hanging loosely perpendicular to your head.
