Homemade Peacock Costume

I made this Peacock Costume for my daughter Ashley. You start with a basic crushed velvet leotard and sew on approx. 5,000 sequins beads. Then hot glue the feathers in rows you can choose any color feathers you'd like. We ordered real peacock feathers. Take Styrofoam circle and paint it black, and attach Velcro to the the leotard in back (centered with your child) and also on the circle to attach.

Make holes in Styrofoam circle for each individual peacock feather. Add a pair of pantyhose and black shoes and your done. She did have a beautiful peacock feathered mask to go with this but she didn't like the feel of the feathers on her face.

It took us 4 months to make it, but for people who can dedicate time to this costume, it shouldn't take long at all. Hope you all like it.

I think I'd choose to make it smaller by cutting the feathers down a bit and arranging them so my child could get through the door without breaking the feathers though. But wow, what a great idea!
