Pretty Handmade Peacock Costume

I have wanted to be a peacock for years, and after finding one that was way too short, I decided to make my own Peacock Costume. I started with a corset (Frederick’s of Hollywood), added a skirt from a discount dance shop, and then attached feathers and rhinestones everywhere. I made the peacock spray as a detachable piece (so I can drive), and then added a cut up feather boa to the back of the skirt.

Peacock Spray- I used a cardboard cut in the shape of a Y to attach the stalks of the feathers. I glued 5 feathers to each stalk (cut down on bulk), and then attached a rhinestone in the center of the eye. I wrapped the spray in ribbon so it is more comfortable when I insert it and out.

Bodice- I glued tiny peacock eyes, and trimmed down peacock eyes all over the front. For the sides, I ordered the barred wing feathers, and on the back I used the peacock sword feathers, and the gold feathers. I glued rhinestones all over as well in Turquoise, purple, gold, mocha, and green, and crystal AB.

Skirt- I attached a cut up boa on the back and trimmed to a V-shape. I glued peacock eyes and rhinestones throughout it. I finished it off with fishnets, an armband and a neck choker made from feathers as well.

I topped off the look with peacock fake eyelashes, lots of green makeup and jeweled eyes! I hope you enjoy!

  1. I just made one pretty much like this but used a feather fan as a base and made straps. Took me one evening and a TON of hot glue. It’s actually a lot easier than it looks…only problem is getting that many feathers on short notice. Hobby Lobby charges 1.99-3.99 per feather depending on size but if you have somewhere you can get them in bulk it’s totally do-able

  2. I unfortunately need to wear this tomorrow night to a party, but it will be for sale for Next Year’s Halloween. I got a lot of compliments and it is actually very comfortable!

  4. I love this costume! I’m thinking about making myself a similar one.

How many feathers, approximately, did you use on the bodice?

How did you make the choker?

And, lastly, how did you attach the feather spray to your costume?
