DIY Peacock Costume from an Old Prom Dress

In 2010 I was a Peacock. To make the Homemade Peacock Costume I took an old prom dress and tailored it down to be shorter. I cut in darts into the bottom of the dress and added in more fabric to make the dress kick out a bit. I created a tutu by using black tool and a ribbon for the waistband (if you want directions on how to make a tutu go to YouTube, lots of how-to videos there). I wore the tutu under the dress to make it kick out more.

Then I made another tutu where there was a lot of black, green, and blue tool. I wore that on my backside to make the colors stand out more in the back and make the backside kick out more. I made the Peacock feathers by buying home décor feathers from Michaels Craft store. I bent the stick part of the feather around a black thick waisted belt (which I wore backwards so it was a solid black on the front side, not a belt buckle). I used 5 peacock feathers.

To cover the stick part of the feathers, I wrapped it in tool (so you wouldn’t see it in the back). I made a necklace thing out of extra fabric. I made the earrings out of extra peacock feathers. The makeup was the MOST fun! I found feather fake eye lashes and really did up the eye make up!
