Coolest Homemade Mystery Machine Kids Halloween Costume Idea

My 5 year old son loves Scooby Doo. I had this homemade Mystery Machine kids Halloween costume idea so he could wear his favorite pajamas!

First I spray painted a box with aqua spray paint,(cost $2.99). Next step, I painted the green accents with paint I already had. The rest of it was just like scrapbooking! I already had the paper for the flowers/wheels/etc.

I covered strips of cardboard with aluminum foil and hot glued them on for the bumpers and the cargo rack on top of the van.

The straps to hold it on are cut from a Trader Joe’s reusable grocery bag. I stapled and hot glued them in place.

I printed an image of “The Gang” from Google and enlarged it, then glued it onto the “windshield”.

Last step was hot-glueing touch lights, ($2 from the Dollar Tree), for headlights. I used a 2-pack of those fake tea-light candles and colored them red with a red Sharpee and glued them on for tail lights, ($1 from the Dollar Tree).

In total, I spent $6 on my son’s costume. He was the hit of the neighborhood while out trick-or-treating, and the bonus was he could see where he was going because he had headlights!
