Homemade Mermaid Halloween Costume
This Homemade Mermaid Halloween Costume was my costume a few years ago. I made it by buying a mermaid style wedding dress and it in half to just use the skirt. I spray painted the white dress with 4 colors of blue and green. I cut hundreds of tiny "scales" out of colorful and shiny fabrics and glued them all in between the beaded rows on the skirt, to look like fish scales. I also brushed over the entire skirt with sparkles to give it a "wet" look.
I did not want to show my belly, as I would have to wear this costume in the cold and in front of small children so I found a blue/green sparkly top and made a broach out of a sea shell and pinned it to the shirt. I worked very hard on the wig, I glued small pieces of "coral" and shells to form a very "under the sea" looking crown. I found a beautiful and colorful pekoe shell necklace and sea shell earrings. Also Not seen in this picture was a purse made of shells and a gold "net" shawl.
