A group of eight young women decided to transform themselves into a Homemade Magic School Bus Group Halloween Costume for Halloween. We acquired eight boxes and a ton of yellow paint. We painted the outside of all the boxes yellow, with black stripes and wrote "Magic School Bus" across the side of all four. The back two boxes read "Wide Load" and had red construction paper as brake lights.

We also made wheels, a stop sign and a steering wheel using cardboard, duct tape, black markers, and construction paper. Our favorite part of this costume was our working headlights! For these, we purchased battery operated "tap lights" and affixed them to the front two boxes. We also found a bike horn laying around the house that we affixed to the front of the bus so we could tell others to "Get out of the way!".

Of course, to make the costume complete we needed to have our driver (Ms. Frizzle) in a red/orange wig with a name tag and cherry dress. We purchased the wig at a local department store and found everything else around the house. The other seven of us wore black on our bottoms and dressed like our own version of schoolchildren on top. We wore younger looking clothes, carried backpacks, did our hair and gave ourselves plenty of freckles.

We tied the boxes over our shoulders using twine and made sure they were all the same height from the ground. It was a really fun costume! We walked around all night singing, in unison, "The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round..." and had tons of people asking to take pictures with us.
