Homemade Jack the Pumpkin King and Oogie Boogie Costumes
My sons and I are totally in love with The Nightmare Before Christmas! So when it came to choose a Halloween costume there wasn't any other choice who they were going to be, Rivals "Jack Skelington" aka Homemade Jack the Pumpkin King and Oogie Boogie Costumes.
We went to a bunch of Halloween costume stores but no one had exactly what I wanted so I chose to do it myself. We went to the Goodwill and bought a woman's pin-striped suit (size 6) and bought a couple yards of potato sack-ish material.
I ripped, sewed, and hot glued a woman's size 6 suit into a child's size 3T. I cannot sew for the life of me so it was mostly hot gluing. The parts I sewed were all crazy but thankfully Jack is a dead skeleton so it made it seem more creepy:) For his bat I got the heel of a men's black sock and stuffed it with cotton balls, glued googlie eyes on it, and used the rest of the black sock for wings that I glued onto black pipe cleaners so they would appear stiff like bat wings in flight. I glued those to a strip of the left over material from the suit and got his famous bat tie.
For Oogie Boogie I hot glued the potato sack material onto one of him hooded pj's and drew the eyes and mouth. Now Oogie Boogie is a monster filled with bugs so I got dollar tree bugs and hot glued them all over his costume so it looked like the bugs were escaping from within his costume. Super simple.
Now I got my two animated rivals ducking it out Tim Burton style and loving every minute of it!
