Homemade Jack Skellington Halloween Costume

This is my 6yr old son Tyler. He wanted to be Jack Skellington for Halloween this year. I did not like any of the Jack Skellington costumes I found so I decided to make my own Homemade Jack Skellington Halloween Costume.

I started out with a tux he wore to a wedding. I painted the stripes on with metallic fabric paint. I also used black fabric and made strips and glued them to the back of the jacket for a frayed look. I made the bowtie out of cardboard and painted it black and outlined it with glow in the dark fabric paint.

I bought a foam rat and cut it in half and glued the head on the middle of the bow tie. I then sprayed glitter paint over the entire tie. The tie is put on with Velcro on a white tshirt. The mask was made from a basketball mask I found in a thrift store. I used it as a foundation for the mask. I first cut out the teeth so I could re-apply them to the Jack Skellington mask. I also glued the nose down and then paper-mached it 4 coats. To get a smooth coat I used a thin coat of drywall mud.

I cut out the eyes and mouth. Then I sprayed it with white paint. I also used cotton balls to accentuate the eyebrows. I drew the mouth and nose on and reapplied the teeth. I used a mesh bag and cut out for the eyes and applied to the inside of the mask with masking tape. The walking stick is covered in gray gauze and a Halloween skeleton figure glued on top.
