Homemade Hershey's Chocolate Bar Costume

The idea of our Homemade Hershey's Chocolate Bar Costume came after my sister and I debated about a package that could be made into a costume. We entered to www.coolest-homemade-costumes.com and saw a lot of costumes, including a Hershey’s bar, but we thought that one looked not so cool, so we decided to make an even better one. My sister studies Graphic Design, so she already had a lot of paintings, plus, she learned how to use the sewing machine a few months ago, so we looked for a fabric store, and there, we discussed about the Hershey’s idea (it competed to the "twister" costume) but Hershey`s won.

We bought 3 meters of Beige color (that is some kind of darkened white) fabric (the cheapest one) and 1 thread of the same color. We also get 50 cm of a hard fabric, called here “Internon” or something like that, to make the support of the costume and to make the costume look more like a Hershey's package (more squared if you know what I mean).

My sister took me some measures, and then she started the sewing. First she took the "internon" and made a head hole in the middle, then she made the same for the fabric, but she sewed both sides leaving a space where the arms are supposed to go, and she also made some corrugated ends, just like a real package!. The internon and the fabric where not glued or anything. After that, we looked in the internet for the package.

The back of the costume was idea of my sister; we used markers instead of the vinyl paints we used in the front. We used some kind of old cardboard when we painted, because the vinyl and the markers pass through the fabric like a hot knife in butter! The photos I’m sending where taking a day after Halloween, and the letters on the back may be a little blurred because it was raining that night. Although it was not perfectly made, we received favorable critics the last 31 of October, but not as many I wished. But I saw here in Bogotá at least 1000 thousand costumes the 31 of October, and I was the only Hershey’s!

TOTAL COST: I bought everything in Colombian pesos, but I made the change to American dollar so you get an idea of how it was.
50cm of "INTERNON" -3 dollars
3 meters of fabric -6 dollars
1 thread -50 cents
Vinyl’s (brown and grey), we already had them, but 1 dollar each is the price
Blue and black markers (sharpies are good idea too but we didn’t have), 1 dollar each.

Total time spent: 4 hours from 4pm to 8pm on the 31 of October!
