I always try to come up with an original costume idea, but I think this one tops it off! I actually look on the internet for ideas, especially this site, but this year, I didn't find anything I really wanted to make.
About 2 to 3 weeks before Halloween, I was sitting in the living room, still thinking about what I should be for Halloween when I saw the guitar sitting there. That's when I knew I was gonna make a Homemade Guitar Costume for my Halloween costume.
I started by cutting the guitar shape in cardboard boxes I taped together. Then, I taped some chicken wire to do the side and wrapped the whole thing in paper mache. After 2 coats of newspapers, I engineered the neck of the guitar with cardboard and hot glued it to the body.
At this point, I new it was gonna be pretty big. I also wrapped the neck with paper mache. I did about 4 to 5 coats of paper mache and then painted costume with acrylic pain I had at home.
For the frets, I used skewers painted with silver acrylic and the strings were made hemp (the 3 big ones) and tiger tail wire ( the 3 small ones). For the tuners, I bought bolts and hooks at the local hardware store and also used bottle caps wrapped in tin foil. I attached padded straps on the inside for the costume to sit on my shoulders.
It took me about two and a half weeks to make, on and off. But it sure looks amazing, at least that's what I think.
Hope you enjoy the idea. The only other picture of a guitar costume I managed to find on Google was a store bought one from Wallmart.
