Coolest Homemade Green Plastic Army Men Costumes
I love going all out for Halloween and usually start thinking of a future costume the day after Halloween. The idea of the Green Plastic Army Men came to me after I saw a clip on Youtube of visitors at Disney Land near the Toy Story display. They actually had guys all dressed in green, as in the movie. I fell in love with the idea and immediately started working on the costume the next day.
The Homemade Green Plastic Army Men Costumes consists of a dress shirt, cargo pants, boots, working gloves and a wide cotton belt. I had no idea where to start with the color. I considered dying the clothes but then someone told me I needed fabric paint. I looked everywhere for fabric paint but came up short; all they sold were small amounts.
I then went to the hardware store and bought a single can of Garden Green spray paint. I hung up the clothes using hangers and fishing line to keep them in place and sprayed away. I also stuffed the clothes with newspaper to fill them out. I then realized that I needed more than one can; in fact, I ended up using about 8 cans of spray paint. I put about 3 coats on the shirt, belt and cargo pants. The boots took about 4 coats of paint, and the gloves took 2 coats of paint.
After all the coats of paint and the clothes were dry, I took the clothes off the hanger and they were stiff as a board. I took out the newspaper stuffing and crumpled them up and let them hang on a hanger. I repeated this step until the clothes were not so stiff. I hung the clothes outside for about 2 weeks to get rid of the paint smell. You will not be able to get it completely out but, the longer you air dry, the better your results will be.
The accessories included a fake plastic gun, plastic bullets, plastic helmet, 2 empty soap boxes, and an empty plastic bottle. I also sprayed these accessories with 2 coats of paint. I carried the gun all night and the bullets went around my chest. I cut a slit in the back side of the soap boxes and put them on my belt, to make it look as if I had stuff on my belt. I also attached the bottle on my belt using fishing line.
For my face I used the “Snazaroo” brand face paint: Bright Green Color. Easy on and easy off (with a long shower and lots of soap). I honestly felt very comfortable with the face paint on. It did not dry up or crack; I did not feel as if I had anything on my face.
For my ears, I took a piece of cotton and put paint on one side and shoved the clean side in my ear. I had someone paint my neck line and the back of my ears. I used green hair spray on my hair. I also used green lipstick and eye-liner.
All in all I believe these Homemade Green Plastic Army Men Costumes was my best ever. It looked real and looked great. I received compliments all night.
