My friends and I saw a poster advertising the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie and this became the inspiration for our Homemade Alvin and the Chipmunks Group Costume.

We went to Value Village and found oversized men’s coloured T-shirts in the 3 colours we needed. We put our own touches on them; I (for Alvin) cut up the side with slits and tied them together making the big T-shirt into a fitted dress. The other chipmunks cut open the neckline or fixed the sleeves. Then we used tape to make the big letters on the front. We also went to a costume shop and got animal ears (poking them through an old red hat for Alvin), big front teeth, and whiskers – all for super cheap.

We used makeup to give ourselves little brown noses and added lots of white around our eyes and lots of blush to emphasize our big chipmunk cheeks. People were commenting all night about how great and original our costumes were, and they were only about $10-$15 each to put together! We had a great Halloween, dressed up as Alvin and the Chipmunks.
