My friend was having a 1980’s themed fancy dress party for her 30th birthday and I KNEW I had to go as Rainbow Brite (I was born to play that role!). I checked out the Rainbow Brite costumes online, but they were very expensive and a bit tacky-looking, so I decided to make my own.
I bought this blue dress for under £7.00 in a charity shop – with a tiny bit of adjusting, it was perfect – especially the cap sleeves. The red bib is a vest and I cut out felt pieces I had from crafting into the rainbow and the star. The white trim is a scarf! The arm stripes are long socks from the Pound shop.
I bought the fluffy boot covers from London. I ‘m also wearing a ring with Twink the Sprite on it, and the ribbon and star hair band I already had. To finish it off I added hair extensions and a purple star temporary tattoo to my cheek.
I won the trophy for best costume – the only trophy I’ve ever won!
