Edward Scissorhands Homemade Costume

This Edward Scissorhands Homemade Costume was my costume for Halloween 2005. Unfortunately this appears to be the only picture I have readily available. It looks like I'm one of the very few to ever do Edward dressed in his shirt and slacks. I'll admit it had a lot to do with the fact that it seemed much easier to achieve, and much more comfortable.

I found both the slacks and shirt in the mens section (I'm female) of Thrift Town, as well as the suspenders. I cut the suspenders and safety pinned them like in the film. For his leather suit, I used black duck tape on a regular black tshirt. Since only the collar would show, I placed duck tape only on the top of it, and also created a turtleneck. I used aluminum wire to make three metal rings like Edward has on his collar.

For the hands I put rubber gloves on my hands and wrapped black duck tape around them, I then cut the wrist and palm of each one to take them off. When I needed to wear them again I just placed a piece of duck tape over the slits. For the scissor blades, I actually found a template online which I printed and then traced onto white foamcore. I spray painted the handles black and the metal parts silver. I do believe I hot glued them onto the gloves.

I walked the streets and all night people were taking pictures with me. It was a definite success!
