My best friend and I wanted to be something funny for the costume party at work. We're always goofing around and making people laugh, so it had to be something good. It also had to be kid friendly because we're schoolbus drivers. I had been reading The Cat in the Hat to my kids and suggested we be Thing 1 and Thing 2. We rented the movie and decided to dress as the movie version. The only difference is a pink nose and blue eyebrows instead of black.
The Dr.Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 Costumes were fun and easy to make. We started off with a red sweatsuit. Footie pajamas would be ideal, but they cost more and I'm more likely to wear a pair of sweatpants again. We used red knit gloves and the slipper socks that have the non-skid soles to put over our shoes.
For the Thing 1 and Thing 2 circle logo on our tops, we traced and cut out the shape of a dinner plate onto a sheet of adhesive white felt. We used a pencil to draw the words 'Thing 1' and 'Thing 2.' We used a sharpie to color it in. Once that was done, we unpeeled the backing and just centered it on the top and stuck it on. It sticks really good and it doesn't take too much effort to get it off when you're done.
We painted our faces white and drew over our eyebrows with blue makeup crayon. We used black eyeliner for our eyes and used false long blue eyelashes that curled at the ends. We used pink lip liner for our lips and to color a triangle on our noses. We were lucky enough to find the blue wigs at a costume store. They were about $12 each. To finish off the look, we put two grapes in our upper lip to give us that weird "whoville face."
Everyone loved our costumes! We won first place! The best part of the day was when my friend's mom got sick and we had to take her to the emergency room, dressed up! We had doctors and nurses coming out to look at Thing 1 and Thing 2 sitting in the waiting room of the E.R. We had a blast that day and we'll never forget it.
