This DIY Day of the Dead couple Halloween costume were put together in one day! We had a few items but most were picked up here and there.
I think the hats really made the costumes. The top hat for Mark was left over from last year and the hat I have on was bought day of. Both hats were plain and we added the flowers (some real some fake) and the ribbon around Marks hat. Mark did the crafting by punching holes in the hats and using old bread ties to keep the flowers in place.
As to the clothing, we bought the skirt and the shirt from a local costume shop and found the rest at a thrift store. I got the lace and ribbon at the fabric store and fashioned my neck tie with it. The vest Mark is wearing was a thrift store purchase and we cut a hole in it at stuck the flowers through.
The make up is very time consuming. I drew my inspiration from a burning man photo I saw while browsing and a few other photos. I did all of the face makeup. Mark and I both did our own body make up.
The whole DIY Day of the Dead couple Halloween costume put together took us 4 hours with make up and hats. I had the make up on hand but it was the expensive theater style make up. I think it’s good on two counts: number one it looks tons better than the cheap stuff, and secondly so much easier to get off!
