Happy Waffleween!

I would definitely use the words ‘quirky’ and a bit ‘corny’ as a part of my personality traits. I just roll with it. Two things were certain this year: 1. I wanted to be some sort of a food item for Halloween this year. 2. This costume could NOT be store bought.

Following the suit of my uber creative, sew crafty mother, I decided I was going to make my own costume this year. I decided to be “Mrs. Butterworths Syrup”, and surely, I would need a waffle to complete the ‘look.’ Luckily, my boyfriend is very obliging.

I made my costume out of a rust colored duvet cover I had purchased at the Salvation army for $9. My (cap) hat is made from foam sheets you buy at Michaels, and my label is hand painted on a raw canvas. The waffle: is made from an old egg crate (the one that goes beneath your sheets on your mattress), and the bacon is also painted on raw canvas.

We marched in our Homemade Mrs. Butterworth and Wafffle Couple Costume in the West Village Halloween Parade 2010 last year. We felt like breakfast-themed superstars! It was amazing!!!

I LOVE THIS! I have been looking everywhere on how to make a waffle costume! How did you make the waffle look so defined and real?? Did you cut out squares from the foam and then use spray paint for everything??

thanks!!!

Hi guys-

Yes, I used an egg crate from my bed...then cut thin strips and hot glued it on top...then i masked with tape those strips...sprayed brown spray paint and then removed the tape. Thank you for the compliments!!! We had so much fun!

I LOVE waffles.

Coolest SunDrop Costume

The first time I saw the Sun Drop commercial I was laughing so hard! Since all my friends were telling me that I look like the girl from the commercial because of my red hair, I decided that the SunDrop girl was going to be my Halloween costume this year.

It was an exclusive costume and nobody else had the same idea. It was funny to hear people say "oh she's from that commercial!". Many people made me "drop it like it's hot" also.

For the costume part: the t-shirt I got at SunDrop.com for about 20 dollars. I bought a red headband thing at Rite Aid. I used a pair of my shorts and black leggings that I had. I cut an old pair of red stockings and made those my leg warmers. I added shinny shoes that were comfortable for trick or treating.

I bought a case of Sun Drop and gave it out to all of my friends. It was an easy costume and very affordable.

Coolest Most Interesting Man in the World Costume

Homemade Most Interesting Man in the World Costume

This Homemade Most Interesting Man in the World Costume idea came about from the Dos Equis Beer commercials. The "Most Interesting Man in the World" costume was made with a black suit I owned, my fiance's scarf, white paint for the hair and beard, bronzer and a few Dos Equis beer props. I made my beard and mustache out of leftover beard that I pasted on with fake eyelash glue. I also painted it white to resemble gray hair and did the same to my hair. I wanted to look as tan as he does in his commercials so I used bronzer on my face to make myself look extra tanned red and shinny.

I carried around a Dos Equis bottle that I also sipped on and a cigar. "Stay thirsty my friends" is what he says so I ironed the quote on my back. This idea certainly had some people laughing and was a great way to start up conversation.
