Alex from the Clockwork Orange Costume

Alex from the Clockwork Orange Costume

I really enjoyed the movie Clockwork Orange and I had always talked about dressing up as the main character for Halloween at some point, but never really got around to putting it all together in time year after year.

This year though, Halloween is on a Friday and there are lots of parties, so I have been a little more motivated and I really had a lot of fun seeking out all the parts for this Alex from the Clockwork Orange costume.

I found a hat at the dollar store, bought the shirt, pants, boots, cane (half of a curtain rod *lol*) at Value Village and bought a new cup at Sport Chek (used ones just aren't the same). The eyes on the sleeves are made from a couple of wind-up eyeballs I got at another dollar store, I used a glue gun to attach them to the sleeves.

All told I probably spend about $60 on the costume so I am pretty happy with the results! The only thing missing in this picture to complete the look is are the accented eyelashes on the right eye - I am going to do this for Halloween, but it is still a week away - I may send another pic in with that done at a later date.

I am really getting excited to see people's reactions to it on Halloween!

I'm also going as Alex this year! I wore the costume last night to a party & everyone LOVED it... except the stupid girl who thought I was Charlie Chaplin.

Since I'm a girl, and wasn't gonna pay the $100 for a codpiece, I went to American Apparel & got a mini skirt to hook the suspenders onto & wore sexy back knee-high boots (was going to get them anyway).

For fun I added a plastic knife that retracts when you stab it - What a great mood & only $2.50 at a Halloween store. Have fun droog!

Like the others, I also had wanted to do this costume for a while. I am a big fan of the film, so for a NYE heroes and villains party I decdided to go all out on it.

The shirt was an old white creased shirt I've had for a while, the trousers i got from a designer/past seasons outlet store - cost £17
(they are actually Pierre Cardin)

Bowler hat/stick and braces from a costume shop - props cost about £15 the lot

Plain white tee underneath, £5.

Black boots from a cheap shoe shop, £12. I used eyeliner from the girlfriend for the right eye, which then took a few days to completely come off - got some strange looks around town I can tell you.

All in all it worked really well, got some good laughs at the party and felt the business. Strangers in the street were also laughing when we saw in the New Year at 12pm.

Go for it is my advice to anyone who wants to try this, easy enough and cost about £50 the lot, although this could be done a lot more cheaply if so desired.

Seriously, you look like you could be a Droog. Did you forget the codpiece? That would have been perfect! I give it a 9.

Alex from Clockwork Orange Halloween Costume

Alex from Clockwork Orange Halloween Costume

This is a costume I have been wanting to do for a couple years now so I just went ahead and did it this year! I'm into a lot of obscure movies with Stanley Kubrick's Clockwork Orange being on the Top 5 list. I wanted to do a female version of Alex which was a simple enough idea - replace pants with a skirt.

I'm not good at sewing or anything like that so my homemade costume came from using what I have and spending a little on what I don't. I bought a bowler hat and cane from Spirit Halloween. The skirt was a really lucky find on eBay after months of searching that looked exactly the way I had pictured in my head, suspenders and all. (I kept the suspenders hanging down rather than over my shoulders, though, just for comfort reasons.) I bought the shirt at a Goodwill. To wrap it all up, I used some of my black leggings and little black shoes. The eyelashes on my right eye were drawn on with eyeliner...

and - tada! Viddy well, li'l brotha, viddy well...
