I have made 3 of these costumes now, everybody wants to be a chicken!! My daughter wore this Homemade Chicken Costume and won 3 contests.

I started with a pain white long sleeve zipper front hoodie, about 4 sizes bigger than she wears. I purchased several 7' white feather boas and stitched each one on by hand, making the stitches about 3" apart. I just ran the boas up and down and for the sleeves I went around. The hood I did the same way. I bought bright orange leggings, used red felt to make the comb on the top and orange felt for the beak. I attached the beak with elastic for around the head. For the feet I bought standard yellow dishwashing gloves, stuffed the fingers with tissue and slid them over her shoes.

This is a very messy costume, the whispy feathers float everywhere, my car was littered with them within an hour! But it is totally worth it. Simple concept, time consuming (took about 15 hours total for the feathers) but not too expensive and very unique!

For my son's chicken DIY Halloween costume idea I bought 2 white turtlenecks and cut down the back several inches, glued the shirts together and the bottom seam and put stuffing in between the layers so he was fluffy, then I bought 2 white boa's and hot glued them around the shirt, I also made a onesie style shirt (cause I couldn't find one his size) so I sewed a piece of material in the crotch area so the shirt stayed down and tight around his legs.

I bought white girls tights and dyed them yellow, and yellow rubber kitchen gloves stuffed with fluff and glued to an old pair of shoes. On the back of the shirt where I cut it I sewed buttons so he could step in it. For the head I bought a white winter hat and cut the seam and cut a red comb shape from felt and re-stitched the hat with the comb in it.

I bought around 12 white feather boas from the Dollar store and sewed them onto an old white tunic shirt of mine. Then the hat was made out of simple white fleece with a red crown, and had two boas sewn onto it as well. To sew them on, I used a combination of hand and machine stitching. If it was along the edge, easier and faster to just use the machine, but for the middle I hand sewed. One was left a little longer in the back to make the tail.

My 5 year old was in heaven with his Fluffy White Chicken! It was exactly what she wanted.

Cause chickens don't really fly, get it? lol We built the plane out of cardboard and paper mache and fitted it to the stroller. Goldie's costume is footy pajamas with feather boas all around. Her helmet is a pink beanie cut in the shape of an old timey fighter helmet and her goggles are swim goggles with pink felt to make them look like aviation goggles.

This Goldie the Chicken Pilot Homemade Costume was time consuming but not difficult -- beware the molting tho. There were feathers everywhere! She won the local costume contest for 2010.

I made this cutest cuddliest chicken costume for my 1 year old daughter, she was able to walk around in it which made it even cuter. I stitched a white feather boa to a white onsie and dyed tights yellow. I placed yellow rubber latex gloves over feet making the feet look so cute especially when she walked. The white hat I stitched a red comb I made out of red felt. She was absolutely adorable and people were laughing everywhere we went.

My daughter received lots of attention at our local Boo In The Zoo this year in her little Chicken Costume.

A yellow bodysuit with matching leggings and glued on boas feathers was all this required for a faulous costume.
