Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompas Group Costume

OOmpa Loompa Doopity Doo, Willy Wonka Let us off work for a day of Candy making to enjoy Halloween. I really wanted to be something different than the normal Halloween costume you end up seeing so we made a modern spin on the old Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompas Group Costume.

We where able to find a green wig and plain pleated white skirt. Buttons where sewed on the skirt which allowed us to make suspenders from white ribbon. Orange tights where found to make our legs orange but for our face we used a Orange blush and coated our faces. Our faces where much more orange in person.

A simple brown long sleeve shirt was bought at Target and we bought an extra pair of Stripped brown and white socks, which where cut and sewed to the neck and sleeves of our shirt.

Little white Pom-poms where glues to the toes of our shoes. Total cost of the costume approx $70. Kind of expensive but totally worth it.

Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume

Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume

My husband and I were looking for something affordable and unique for our son at Halloween. We made him this Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume. As I am inexperienced at sewing, I just outlined a pair of pants that fit him perfectly (giving them and extra inch on each side). And used a large cup for the half moon shape in the middle of the leg.

I also dyed a shirt and a pair of socks dark brown, and painted white lines on the sleeve, collar, and socks. For the buttons I painted them brown and used blue thread to sew it on. The shoes I also used felt and outlined a pair of shoes that fit him perfectly, and used brown and white felt for the palm palms.

This was so easy and simple the only thing that would have saved time would have been a sewing machine, but as you can see, hand stitching doesn't seem to look any different!

Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume

This is my Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume. For the hair: I bought a blond wig, cut it, rolled it up, bobby pinned it, and sprayed it with hair spray and green "hair" paint. I bought a brown turtle neck, bought some white fabric paint to paint the stripes on. I purchased white gloves, brown socks (painted the stripes with the fabric paint). I had the brown shoes, and all I did was buy balloons and swirl brown fabric paint on the balloons.

I bought super dark foundation for my face, and white face paint for the eye brows. The suspenders were made of felt, and two brown buttons with elastic waist. I won 3 costume contests Halloween night! I was the hit at all the bars, and the only Oompa Loompa out there.

Great costume. I am looking to do this costume for a dance team performance. Your information helped a lot. I am having a hard time finding brown turtle neck shirts though... any suggestions?

omg!!!! you see, me and my sister are having a Wonka party but, I'm gonna be an Umpa Lumpa. I'm saving money on a wig by spray painting my hair green (its short and curly any-way so should be okay, I'll just pray that the paint comes out haha- or without making me go bold) but I wanted a crack at making the dungarees-yours are so awesome and the striped scarf! wow-that's such a groovy costume! Your an inspiration-AND VERY CREATIVE!
