Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume

In my circle of friends, Halloween is a big deal. I used to hate dressing up until I met this group of friends and now they expect me to come up with the most creative costume each year.

This year I decided to create an authentic Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume from the classic movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The overalls are made from fleece that be purchased at any crafts store or Wal-Mart and a brown turtleneck shirt that has been modified with the neck and sleeves to have white stripes. I wore brown shoes but on top of them was a homemade bow using brown and white yarn and they were tied to the top of the shoe. I used orange cream makeup and white for the eyebrows. I spray painted my hair green with washable paint. Finally, I wore white cotton gloves and completed the detail with white socks that had painted brown stripes and of course the giant lollipop.

This was definitely my most fun costume and thought I'd share after running across this site.

Coolest Oompa Loompa Adult Homemade Costume 56

My Oompa Loompa Adult Homemade Costume /scene/candy was somewhat “pricey” but I loved doing it for my church’s “Trunk or treat”.

Materials I used:
Green wig (Walmart)
Orange paint (ordered offline, our Walmart didn’t sell it)
White cloth gloves
Brown long sleeved tshirt (already had)
Plain white tee (used to cover up the wording on the front of the brown tshirt)
Hot topic White Suspenders (most costly I believe).
Walmart brand brown crocks (I call them frocks, fake crocks).
Orange/black striped tights (Walmart).

I gave out ALL wonka candy: (laffy taffy, nerds, pixie sticks, etc..). My truck had a Wonka Theme too. My talented sister made me lifesized wonka bars out of small canvas, and paint. I used spider webs to resemble cotton candy, Peppermint sticks (Christmas decorations) as candy. And then used a blue table cloth to cover up my toolbox!

I had fun getting creative with this! This was back in 2009. My costume for 2010 was just as fun/easy to make as well will be my 2011 costume!

We made Oompa Loompa costumes with a modern spin, they were also taylored for females. We were the girl Oompa Loompas. We got the socks from an accessories store (basically any cool colored striped socks will work). We used brown shirt that we already had. Polo neck or T-shirt, depending on the weather. Both of used white shorts, and suspenders. To keep warm, and to save us the trouble of painting our legs, we got orange leggings. We also got large plastic clown shoes and painted them white for that extra effect. And of course we used green hair spray, and orange body paint. As well, as for the girlie touches, green fake eyelashes, a green headband, green ring pops, and painted our nails green!

This Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume may seem like a lot of work but it was well worth it!!
