Oompa Loompa on Stage

Oompa Loompa on Stage

I definitely wanted something no one else would be and I love the original movie, always knew I would make this Oompa Loompa costume one year. So the pants I found at a thrift store (yes they are woman's but shhh don't tell anyone). I couldn't find a brown turtle neck anywhere in the world so I bought a white one and dyed it brown, it didn't come out as dark as I wanted but it did give it a retro technicolor brown so not bad.

Then I bought couple yards of felt, a glue gun and made my buttons, my suspenders added stripes to sleeves, socks and neck. I also made some bow tie puffy thing with the felt strips and glued them to my sneakers. The wig is a red wig from Party city and I bought a bunch of green hair spray and went to work. Lastly some orange cream makeup with white touch ups and white gloves.

I won 2 costume contest at local bars total of about $500 in cash and prizes. Bring giant bag of candy to throw to the crowd, also doing a little oompa dance helps. Not bad for spending bout 30 bucks and suffering a couple burns with the glue gun.

Oompa Loompa Costume

Oompa Loompa Costume

I made this Oompa Loompa costume for my girls this year using a combination of tips found on this site. The pants were purchased at the thrift store in women's size 24.

I then sewed the legs and waist to a smaller size, leaving the hips large like the Oompa Loompas. I bought white material at the store and sewed 2 strips together to make the suspenders and sewed it to the pants.

The shirt is just brown turtleneck and I used 1/4 inch medical tape to make the stripes. Same with the socks. We made brown pom poms out of yarn for the shoes. Their faces are covered using really dark foundation and white paint for the eyebrows.

The hair is a blond "Marilyn Monroe" wig sprayed green. They were adorable if I do say so myself!

Oompa Loompa Costume

Every year I search for the perfect costume and last year it was Oompa Loompa from he original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Execution of the costume was simple.

I picked up a long-sleeved shirt from the Salvation Army. I cut out overall shaped pants and quickly sewed them together (not even anything fancy or even pretending to be permanant).

I painted red stripes on some socks and added cut up yarn to them. I wore socks over my shoes. Then I bought some orange face paint, white gloves, and green hair spray, and ta da!!

My Oompa Loompa costume was AWESOME. :)

OMG I LOVED UR COSTUME! I'm going to be an Oompa Loompa this year and I couldn't find how! This made it easy and fun! I'm going to get some old white kapries (white overalls are hard to find you know :) and add suspenders, get some socks from hot topic, find a striped turtleneck, a red shirt, orange face paint, green hairspray, pancake make-up, bobby pins and my oompa loompa costume will be compleate! still, 6 more days!

Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa

Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa

This Oompa Loompa Halloween costume is completely homemade. I am not sure the cost of it all, I gathered things as I went.

The Oompa Loompa shirt is just a brown turtle neck with puffy paint stripes. The shoes I got from Target and safety pinned a puff ball with puffy painted stripes on to them! Same with the socks, just regular brown socks with puffy painted stripes on them.

Willy Wonka hat is actually a black hat spray painted with copper, for the hair I glued doll hair to the hat!
