I am a HUGE fan of Jimmy Buffett so I was totally excited to make this Homemade Jimmy Buffett's Lost Shaker of Salt Costume! First, I went to Lowes and bought a large and rectangular sheet of flexible vinyl that would normally be used in a bathroom for the shower walls. (I thought about plexiglass but it did not want to bend as easy.) Then I had a metal bucket that had been used for holding ice cold beer bottles. I turned the bucket upside down and cut two holes for the eyes with a 2” hole saw. I had a large color printer at work so I printed images of lemons, limes, palm trees, shark fins, a salt shaker and a tequila bottle.

I cut the images out and laminated them. Then I rolled the ends of the vinyl sheet and attached the ends together with acorn nuts and cut holes for my arms. I attached the bucket to the vinyl with acorn nuts. I decorated the vinyl with the laminated images with adhesive spray and let dry. I attached a Margaritaville license tag to the back of the salt shaker and put a lei on the bucket. In my left hand I carried around a tequila bottle with a cocktail umbrella. In my right hand I carried a sign that said “If found please return to Jimmy Buffett in Margaritaville!” Also in my right hand was a tape recorder that played Margaritaville the whole time.

I entered this costume in a contest at work and won!

Cost: $20

I'm a parrothead myself and saw this on Pinterest. Absolutely love it!! Good job!

Great idea!

I'm also a parrothead and think it's a great idea. Although it looks very uncomfortable for a costume party. I was thinking of using a white t-shirt or a white dress and making a hat to look like the top of the salt shaker.

Coolest Jon Stewart Costume

Jon Stewart Costume

Believe it or not, my nine year old came up with this idea for a Jon Stewart costume.

For the TV we used a shipping card board (an apple computer box, since it was sturdier). We covered it in silver duct tape and attached the Comedy Central logo and the logo for the Daily Show. A handle was taped to the bottom of the TV so he could hold it.

My son wore a suit and a tie that we had left over from a holiday, and he sprayed his hair dark and slicked it back with gel. We tried a little silver spray for the gray, but it was hard to see.

He was a huge hit at school, with both the students and parents. And he won Most Original Costume!

Very easy, and if you already have a suit and tie, it only cost a couple of dollars for the duct tape and the can of colored hair spray!

The Homemade Janet Jackson Superbowl Costume idea was for “rock night” at our local bar. Any music group or artist costumes or looks were encouraged. I chose to make a costume as Janet Jackson Superbowl “Oops.” I spent hours on the computer watching the videos and looking at the photos to get the most authentic costume I could. I used an old black leather trench coat and cut it up for the pieces of the outfit I needed…chaps-like skirt, short jacket, and bustier. I bought several bras to get the desired effect and used tan material for the breast. I used an earring for the nipple that I constructed out of batting and stitches and lots of electrical tape with silver dots for the grommets for the skirt and edges of jacket. I bought an earpiece microphone and put lots of dark eyeshadow on my face and neck.
