Well, this Blind Melon Bee Girl Costume is the costume I made for last year's Halloween, and while I was looking for ideas on coolest homemade costumes I found someone else who also have made this costume, so I thought well if she submitted it me too jajajaja.
It's really easy to make, really I just bought a yellow leotard at Walmart, black pantyhose, black nylon for the hat and the pseudo-sleeves on the arms, black organdy tulle for the skirt and lots of yellow ribbon. For an extra touch I sewed black sequins at the leotard for the lines on the chest instead of using black ribbon.
For the hat and the pseudo-sleeves I didn't have a pattern I just made it by taking measures of my body and using logic. After you cut the fabric, you have to sew the yellow ribbons, then you sew the whole thing together. It took three layers of tul to make the skirt and is also easier if you sew the yellow ribbon at the hem before you sew it all together.
I made this costume because it represents my love for the 90's. No Rain has been one of my favorites song since my childhood so I was really happy.
A friend asked if I wanted to go to an "I wish I was...." party as Daft Punk (the 2 french guys who made 'one more time' & 'around the world'). I of course loved daft punk and went to it, it was a first attempt but considering no leather jackets and the time it took I was satisfied.
Both helmets started of as those hats you drink beer out of, but were then stripped down, with parts added. The visors are just clear plastic from the hardware store and I tinted them with film used inside car windows, everything is held together with a lot of hot glue (gotta love it) and then painted accordingly, we also had matching gloves.
The helmets were easy to see out of (even at night) and if you have a well positioned straw you could still drink too. Unfortunately I got a little too forgetful that night and ended up losing both.
If I were ever to create them again, I would put the lights in.

I wanted to do something NO ONE else would have. In hindsight, no one in the entire world probably came up with this idea of a Homemade Obama Osama Costume.... lol
So I came up with the idea to have President Obama carrying a wooden box I made marked "Property of Seal Team Six" and inside it was Osama Bin Laden with a USA Rocket through his turban, a bullet hole between his eyes and covered in blood, giving the crowd the finger LOL.
The crowds went WILD....I must have taken 500 pictures with total strangers! It was A LOT of fun. I made the body with Styrofoam swimming noodles, the head from Styrofoam wig heads, the hands were gloves and boots, an old camouflage jacket and satin sheet/robe. I spray painted a wooden apple box from the local grocery store with a camouflage theme.
I took home the 1st Place Prize at Molly's In Soulard, St Louis, Missouri against some stiff competition, nearly 100 entries.
