My friend & I wanted to do a duo costume this year. So I researched Homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 Costume ideas on google images. Out of the very few I saw, Thing 1 and Thing 2 stuck with me. As soon as I told my friend the idea, she instantly came up with a customized costume!
Since we pulled all of this together less than 1 week on top of our limited free time in our lives, I think our look came out beautifully! We live in St. Louis area, this is where we got our items: - spandex red tank top (Gordmans about $7) - red too-too (Spirit Halloween about $25) - red stockings (Express: on sale $10) - white high heels (we pulled form our closets) - red nail polish with sparkles - blue katy perry wig (Party city $20) Tip: if a wig, always get a net cap to fit hair into wig - blue fake eyelashes (walmart $3) Tip: make sure you have glue to put them on - red, white & blur face paint (walmart $2) Tip: we did red cheeks & red nose, & white eyelids - red lipstick (pulled from our makeup bags) - sparkles (Hot topic: found it in make up bag) Tip: we put sparkles on top of white paint on eyes - white foam material, black sparkly letters & pipe cleaners (Michael's craft store) Tip: we cut small plate size circles in foam, super glued the letters in circle, cut & made numbers out of pipe cleaners & super glued onto circle, then safety pinned them onto red tank tops for the Thing 1 & Thing 2 look.
In 2009 I dressed my girls as Thing 1,2 & the Cat in the Hat.
For the Homemade Thing 1 and 2 Costume I ordered a size larger American apparel long sleeve t-shirt & leggings in a vibrant red (I can't recall how much it cost but it was no more than $20 dollars for each child). I then created on my computer a Thing 1 and a Thing 2 logo that I proceeded to iron on to the long sleeve T's. I purchased Adult sized blue wigs for the girls and tacked the back of them with a needle and thread and they were more secure than if I'd bought child sized wigs & the extra size really added to the "craziness" of their hair. The final touches were red gloves and a touch of makeup.
For the Cat in the Hat a lot was store bought but I jazzed it up. Bought the hat, the gloves, the tie. But to the hat I added ears made of felt. She wore black American apparel longsleeve t-shirt and leggings. And I made a bib/placket for the cat's belly from white felt.
I'll never top our 2009 costumes. Definitely a favorite for all.
I just purchased 2 red skivvies and 2 pairs of track pants on sale. Using iron on transfer paper I printed up 'Thing 1 and Thing 2' templates and ironed onto the front of the skivvies.
I purchased red socks (be prepared to throw away afterwards due to holes) and placed them on the 'outside' of my childrens sneakers (they lasted the day).
I purchased 2 blue spiked wigs from a costume shop and to finish off. I used black liquid eyeliner for lashes and nose, make up plus a bit of pink blush on the cheeks ... presto a Homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 Costume.
These are my twin girls that I am adopting. This is their first Halloween with me. I thought this Thing 1 and Thing 2 Twins Costume was a cute idea. Everyone just loved them and their costumes. They won several costume contests within our community. This picture was taken at my oldest's daughter's football game. They were cheering her on.
