These are my babies ages three, two and one enjoying being dressed up on Halloween. They enjoy watching The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About that on TV. So I thought this was a perfect costume having the 3 boys. They are just as crazy as the Cat, Thing 1 and Thing 2.
The costumes are a shirt, sweatpants and turtlenecks with socks over their shoes to keep it as close as possible. I then bought felt and sticky foam board. I wrote and cut out all the letters from the foam. Then I stuck them to the felt and sewed the felt onto their shirts. The Cats belly is just felt sewed onto his shirt.
I then sprayed Thing 1 and Thing 2's hair blue making it crazy and spikey! The only things not handmade were the Cat's hat, gloves and bow. I think these costumes made it easier for them to trick or treat because everyone was loving them.
Since they are a bit shy and it was only their second time trick or treating, the attention for how great they looked helped them open up and made it easier. Hope you like them in their Homemade Cat in the Hat Crew Costume!
For this Cat in the Hat homemade costume I used thin foam off a roll, the sort you can use for packing (donated) to make the hat. I drew out the stripes then used acrylic paint, and used white glue (I needed some staples to secure it as it takes days for the glue to dry).
The rim was a circle I drew and cut out the middle into triangles leaving them to glue inside the main part of the hat. I then attached a shoe lace using electrical tape to secure it. I made the bow by printing off a template and gluing it to some more foam and attaching a shoe lace with electrical tape.
The headband and paws were loaned from a friend, but I am sure they can be purchased from a store. My daughter wore her own black leggings, white top and black cardigan. I tied her hair into a bun and then painted her face.
This outfit won for her class Y6 in the book week 2010.
I was Cat in the Hat and bought the bow tie, hat and gloves as a set at a costume store. I also purchased a black tail. I wore a black turtleneck and black sweat pants. I went and purchased some furry fabric from WalMart and cut it in a large oval and sewed it onto my turtle neck. For the boys as Thing 1 and Thing 2 I bought red sweatshirts and red sweatpants. I bought several blue feather boas and sewed them onto two hats they already had. We cut out some white iron on fabric and copied the "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" logos from the internet in permanent marker onto the fabric then ironed it onto their sweatshirts. Went to Goodwill and picked up two pairs of red gloves for a buck each.
This Cat in the Hat Family Costume was such fun!
