I wanted to think of something fun for my boys so I came to this site for inspiration. I found the homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes and I knew that was what I wanted to do.
Making these costumes was very easy. I bought red sweatsuits, white felt, and black fabric paint for the costume part. First, I cut out the felt into ovals. Then I found an image online of exactly what the writing on the costume looks like and just free handed the words onto the felt. I hot glued the felt circles onto the shirts.
To make the hats I bought two beanie type hats and 4 boas. The boas were the kind that are just furry not the kind with feathers on them. I believe I bought them at Hancocks Fabrics. It might of been Hobby Lobby though. I started hot gluing the boas to the hat at the bottom and just circled it around until I got to the top.
Cost: $15 each

Homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 Halloween Costumes
My daughter and her friend wanted to do something together so I suggested a Homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 Halloween Costumes from the movie, "The Cat in the Hat." It was a great idea. The headpiece was made out of a carwash mat. I cut the backs in half, then sewed them together to fit the head. Painted their faces and put tissue under their top lips to make them poke out.
I took a white self-adhesive felt sheet and cut it in a circle, drew Thing 1 and Thing 2 with a black marker. I took red bedroom shoes and glued red feathers on them and sowed them to the end of the pants legs. This character was great for these two because their character personalities are really similar to their own personalities.
When we went trick-or-treating, they got many positive responses on their costumes. This is a really good costume for friends and siblings of all ages.

My twins were so excitable at only 3 months that Thing 1 and Thing 2 Costumes were a natural choice for their first Halloween costumes.
Their red onesies were stitched from red flannel that was on sale at the fabric store. (We sacrificed another onesie for the pattern). I bought a sheet of felt, traced a CD to make the circle and hot glued them on. I used a permanent marker to name the "Things".
The hair was pretty easy. I used baby caps they already had and lucked out and found some bright blue trim on clearance at Walmart. I just placed the caps on a grapefruit and let the hot glue pour. They came out perfect!
We participated in a Trunks of treats event where my car had a Cat in the Hat theme. My boys were perfect props! Everyone loved them!
Total spent was about $18.

Homemade Thing 1 and Thing 2 Toddler Costumes
My mother in law and I sewed up these Pregnant Twiddle Dum and Twiddle Dee Costume. We bought a monkey pattern and tweeked it a little! We did not add a tail and we made mittens for the hands, then we sewed the feet into the costume. It really did not take us too long.
I found the hats at the dollar tree, actually my 2 year old found it, and I bought two! We just put a paper up to the computer screen and traced the Thing 1 2 letters from a shirt on-line. Then we drew it on the tummy with a black marker.
