Homemade Thing One and Thing Two Halloween Costumes 17

I ran across this site last year and knew that next year my 16 month old twin girls would be at the perfect age/stage to be Thing One and Two. So I saved your site and this is what I came up with for Halloween 2008.

Their costumes were crocheted by hand and NO pattern was used. We live in Florida so the no sleeves worked perfect with the top tying around their neck. I wish I had a picture of them standing, the pants are flair legs and super cute.

My biggest worry was the how to do the hair. So I was on the hunt for the wild blue hair! I knew they were too young for me to spray paint their hair and I couldn't find blue wigs small enough for them so I decided they should be made out of the yarn too. It worked out perfect they did not mind wearing them at all and they even keep them on the whole time!

The only cost involved was the yarn and some time!

Are you willing to sell the wigs? I need them for the twins first birthday next Sat?

What type of yarn did you use?

I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and am doing similar costumes...it never occurred to me to crochet their hats instead of struggling with a wig! I'm an avid stitcher... what kind of yarn did you use? Specific color?

Coolest Cat in the Hat DIY Group Halloween Costume Idea 25

For the Thing 1 & Thing 2 costume I sewed 3/4 of red knit fabric the width of their body, added white circle felt and simply wrote Thing one Thing two on it. And for the detail at the top I hand sewed it pinching the fabric together and ran the needle across inside where the fabric is scrunched.

The Cat in the Hat I used felt for both the hat and the bow, I drew out a bow stuffed stuffing and sewed around the edges, and wrapped a elastic around my neck connected with the bow. The hat sewed two red lines and one white. Drew a circle surrounding the hat and and cut out the middle part for the top and sewed! And the black suit I wore a black spaghetti strap with high waist bottoms.

Thats it, a Cat in the Hat DIY Group Halloween Costume! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Homemade Cat in the Hat Costume

My twins are 15 months old. I’ve been planning on dressing them as Thing 1 & Thing 2 since last year!

Their wigs were gray and I sprayed them blue with blue hairspray from the local party store. I bought red union suits and the Thing 1 & Thing 2 signs are just made from felt.

For my Homemade Cat in the Hat Costume - I bought a hat, bowtie and glove kit from an online costume store, wore all black and made my cat tummy out of felt. I am 14 weeks pregnant and thought it would be a fun way to announce my pregnancy! People loved it!

Where did you get the wigs? The shape of them look perfect! Thing 1 and Thing 2 have such distinctive hair, but thanks to your hair dye idea, those look almost just like in the book!

Homemade Cat in the Hat Costume Idea

Homemade Cat in the Hat Costume Idea

We were invited to a Halloween party and my husband and I thought of a homemade Cat in the Hat costume idea in Halloween 2008.

Since we're plus size it was best to make ourselves. I went to Walmart and bought the black felt material for the body of the cat.

Since they had x-mas stuff out I bought two red bows. The hat was difficult to make - I bought 2 floral rings that fit our head and and a white thick material that can stand up and added red x-mas ribbon for the hat. Also, added cartoon gloves for the final touch.

Coolest Homemade Cat in the Hat Kids Costume 9

Homemade Cat in the Hat Kids Costume

Homemade Cat in the Hat Kids Costume

I made this homemade Cat in the Hat kids costume for my 4 year old's world book day. The suit itself was just a large baby-grow dyed black, with fake fur sewed to the middle, a leg off a pair of tights for his tail, the hat was purely made from cardboard - then I stuck white paper over the top to make it easier to paint.

I was a bit gutted because the next day I realized I had missed a red stripe from the top of the hat BUT... he still won 1st place in his year group :D
