Homemade Birthday Cake Unique Halloween Costume Idea

This year I wanted to dress our daughter up as something different and unusual, and unexpectedly our little cake WON OUR COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY COSTUME CONTEST!!!!

I am sure that I made the construction of this Homemade Birthday Cake Unique Halloween Costume Idea a little more difficult than it could have been, so if you're real crafty feel free to adjust as needed, but even at my amateur level I found it fairly easy.

My supplies consisted of:
foam sheets (2sheets)
cardboard
felt fabric (in whatever color you want your cake)
all kinds of bling for decorations
hot glue gun
measuring tape

Measure your child from shoulders to knees and divide by 2 (this will be the length and tiers of the cake). Lay the foam lengthwise, and trace out 2 different sized rectangles, I used 45 in for the middle tier and 60in. for the bottom tier.
You will need to cut out 2 circles for arm holes in the smaller rectangle. Wrap each one in felt.
Fold each rectangle to make a circle using hot glue to attach the short ends.

Cut a circle out of the posterboard that will top each tier, cut a hole in each circle for the child's head and waist. Wrap these circles in felt and attach to the top of the tiers.
Glue the top and bottom tiers together and decorate. I used the same method to make the hat.

** On a side note: we went trick or treating after the contest and parent after parent wanted to know if I made it, where I got it, could they photograph, etc...it was a real hit!

My daughter decided on a homemade Wedding cake Halloween costume idea. She wanted it to be round and 4-5 layers high. We searched everywhere for round stackable boxes, but none were wide enough for her to fit into. Driving by a neighbors on trash day, I discovered some styrofoam squares of different sizes that their new outdoor lighting fixtures came in. I grabbed all they had.

We went to work cutting them with my electric kitchen knife, a bit messy, but the vacuum was nearby. We cut a circle for her face and two armholes in the sides. Then it was hot glue gun time! We left the 5th layer off in case it was too bulky or too heavy once we got it decorated.

The frosting was All-Purpose Joint Compound that we purchased from Home Depot. Using a drywall knife and spatula, we covered the squares. Then we bought a large cake decorator bag and tip from Michael's and went to work decorating each layer. We topped it off with a Bride and Groom from Michael's wedding aisle. It truly was the BEST costume making time and result ever!!! Joy & Hannah

p.s. Happy to sell it for someone else to use... but the shipping may be tough!

Cupcakes are my favorite dessert, any kind! When I was deciding what to wear for Halloween, I remembered a cupcake costume I had seen the week before. But I wanted to make it better. I used some ideas from others' cupcake costumes and modified them to work best for me. It only took me a few days to make once I picked up the supplies and decided on the color and what ribbon I wanted to use. Another challenge was that I had to put it together as I was getting ready for the night. This added an element of surprise!

I am so pleased with how this Homemade Cupcake Halloween Costume Idea turned out and with all the compliments I received. I was the life of the party and everyone enjoyed dancing with or pretending to take a bite out of the cupcake! It was interesting riding in the car and going to the bathroom, but it was a fun challenge HA! Hopefully you will enjoy this costume as much as I have. I've had several people ask to borrow it for next Halloween! I hope I inspired your creativity to make your best Halloween costume ever!
