Homemade Cupcake Halloween Costume

This costume was made for my 15 month old daughter. I wanted to make a pink and brown cupcake with sprinkles. We started with a pink fleece shirt. We live in a pretty cool climate and I wanted to make sure my little one would be warm. To the bottom we added about six to eight inches of chocolate brown wide wale corduroy for the cupcake “paper.” We made tubes of pink minky dot fabric and sewed them to the top creating a swirl frosting effect. I then glued fabric sprinkles on top. I was worried about not having any real structure, but the fabric tubes really held out for the circle effect.

For the hat, we covered a pink hat loosely with the minky dot fabric, making it look like swirl icing. I glued a plastic cherry we had from a kitchen play food set on top and finished it with more fabric sprinkles. Brown tights and shoes completed the look!

Voila - the sweetest (and only) cupcake in town.

I love this idea. I really would like to make it for my daughter who is 15 months old as well.

Do you have any closer photos of the costume or can you be more specific about the creation of the costume?
I Googled to find out what you meant by minky dot fabric and it pretty much looks like the diaper changing pad covers that they sell at Babies R Us. How did you attach that and drape that to the pink fleece? and how did you make the corduroy look like the cupcake paper? it is hard to tell in the photo but did you use pom poms as the sprinkles?
Any additional help would be very much appreciated

Homemade Cupcake Halloween Costume

I was at a loss as to what to make for my daughter's costume once the "tea cup" costume didn't work out as we had planned. We decided on the Homemade Cupcake Halloween Costume and I am SO glad that we did!

This was made from a medium sized laundry hamper. We cut out the bottom; wrapped it in poster board (to hide the holes in the hamper), then hot glued pink fabric. I pleated the fabric every few inches to make the bottom look more like a cupcake wrapper. We took wide satin ribbon and pinned it make the suspenders.

The top is a plain white flat sheet, wrapped around twice. We made the sprinkles out of different sized pom-poms. Lastly, we sprayed the bottom with silver spray glitter to give it the sparkly look!

For the hat, we bought a pink cap and hot glued a small plastic red ornament to the top - for the "cherry on top".

Cost - $12

This Homemade Cupcake Halloween Costume is my 2 year old daughter with a cherry on top. I used a lampshade for the cup then used construction paper and aluminum foil, folded in zig-zags, to cover the lamp shade.

Then used cream colored fabric to make suspenders on the lamp shade to go over her shoulders. I then sewed buffalo snow cotton onto a piece of fabric and wrapped it about her; cutting out arm holes and sewed the back shut. Then hot glued pom poms and little pieces of brown pipe cleaner on her for sprinkles.

Lastly I put her hair up in a pony tail and painted the actual tail green, and her head red for the cherry on top. For the shoes I hot glued silver fabric to the shoes and hot glued pom-poms together and stuck them on, and voila!
