Bill and Ben Costume 2

Bill and Ben Costume

I was asked by my children's school to make a Bill and Ben costume for the opening of a garden. I bought two big flower pots and drilled out holes for the arms and a big hole at the bottom. I sprayed the pots red and on the back I wrote their names with a white marker pen.

To make the legs I bought smaller pots and cut the bottoms off. I then made holes in the tops and threaded rope through them until they were all together I tied the rope around the arm holes. I made a harness out of ribbon so that you would not have to take all the weight of the pots with your arms. I bought some material and made it into a drawstring so that it could be pulled around the neck.

I drew dots on the material with the marker pen. I made the scarves with left over material and the hats are just hanging basket inserts which I sewed the storks to which I also made out of leftover material. I was going to add wool to the hats for hair but ran out of time. I put foam inside the arm holes so that it would be soft.

Total Spent: $80

Coolest Homemade Bill and Ben Costumes 3

Homemade Bill and Ben Costumes

We wanted just a simple, easy costume so the Bill and Ben costumes was a great choice. The body is obviously just a big garden pot with the bottom cut out for our legs to go through. We made four holes, two on the front, two on the back and threaded and tied some rope to go over our shoulders to hold it up.

We decorated them with just artificial greenery and big flowers. The legs were again, made of smaller pots, but because we couldn't find them big enough to go around our adult legs and also for more ease of movement,we cut them in half and put one half on the front and one on the back.

They were held up by garden string with knots through holes in the pots. This was tied to a belt around our waist to hold them up. The costume was really light weight and although it doesn't look it, was actually easy to move around in and comfortable to wear (unless you are drunk and going through the London Underground at peak times!).

We had so many great comments about our outfits and would definitely do it again! Each costume costs no more than £15 to make.

Hi ya, where did you get your plant pots from and how big are they ?

Plant pots were just plastic one from and garden centre. Doesn't matter how big as long as you can fit your legs through the bottom and over your waist. x

Coolest Homemade Bill and Ben and the Little Weed Costumes 4

Homemade Bill and Ben and the Little Weed Costumes

We decided to go as Bill and Ben and then our friend Leanne wanted to join in so she came as the Little Weed. We went to B and Q and bought some flower pots and bought some saws for 20p in the sale. We came home and sawed off the bottom of the pots and sanded them down with knifes. We also cut some holes for the rope, which was really for assethic appeal rather than practicality as we gained rope burns from the evening on our shoulders.

Finally we made signs for our pots and purchased all necessary attire from Primark to finish off our amazing Halloween Homemade Bill and Ben and the Little Weed Costumes.

Overall the outfits were loved by all even though Claire (Bill) gained rather large bruises on her legs from the pots.
